Fortune cookies are a fun family holiday activity; everyone can write their own messages to put in the cookies. This is a basic fortune cookie recipe that you can make more festive by adding red or green food dye, dusting the cooled cookies with powdered sugar or dipping them in melted chocolate.

Folding the cookies into the proper fortune cookie shape can be a little tricky – it’s best to start by baking only one or two cookies at a time. But it just takes a bit of practice. Besides, if you start now, you’ll be an expert by the time Chinese New Year arrives! (Chinese New Year falls on January 29th in 2006).
