Reader Restaurant Recommendations - SouthWest

    Scottsdale
The Royal China restaurant, 8752 E Shea Blvd, Telephone: (480) 991-6551
It has THE BEST Hot and Sour soup I have ever tasted! It is so good we sometimes order more to take home for lunch the next day. Royal China is located in the shopping center on the NW corner of Pima and Shea.

    Las Vegas
    Joyful House Chinese Cuisine, 4601 Spring Mountain Road, (702) 889 - 8881

ABACUC Chinese Restaurant, 5960 Spring Mountain Road, #1

Lucky Wok, Durango & Spring Mountain Road
Family owned.  The service is excellent, always accommodating to special needs or wants, and the portions are HUGE. The food is fresh and very well prepared.  We eat there at least once a week.

Sam Woo BBQ, located in the Chinatown Plaza, 4215 Spring Mountain Road, 89103 (702) 368 - 7628
After fifty-five  years or so of eating Chinese food, I now have a new number one choice. Upon entering this restaurant and noticing that my wife and myself were the only non-Asians in a group of forty or so people dining, we knew that it would be a treat. And a treat it was: the food was so good, I can't begin to describe it. The portions were more than adequate. The dishes were served hot and prepared with the right amount of spice as I requested. SAM WOO's should be on your ''must try'' list. ENJOY YOUR MEAL!!!

    Oklahoma
    Altus
    Polynesian Garden, Falcon Road, 73564
The owners, Robert and Judy, are from China and Judy either does all the cooking or supervises. The atmosphere is friendly and the decor is lovely. They have imported large beautiful windows, as well as tables and chairs. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent.

  • Texas
    Austin
    Pao's Mandarin House, 800 Brazos Street, 78701, (512) 482 - 8100
There are not many places in Austin to experience true Chinese food, but their style doesn't disappoint. They don't offer buffet (something I dislike about most Chinese restaurants) so you can expect most of their dishes to be wonderfully cooked. One of my favorite dishes there is Three Cup Chicken. It's a mixture of chicken, mushrooms, spices, and other seafood additives - it just tastes fabulous.

The location can be difficult to find, because it is located on a plain office building (with no restaurant sign) downtown on 8th and Brazos. Brazos is a one way street, so get off on 7th street and turn left at Brazos. The restaurant should be on the left hand side of the street.

    Grapevine
    Bo Bo China, 1112 W. Northwest Highway, (817) 481 - 3885
It is a small, unpretentious place, but has the best freshly cooked and seasoned food. Service is great, prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed.  What more could you ask for?

    Houston
My-Lein on Houston's west side on Belier
This vegetarian restaurant is not technically Chinese but Laotian, run by two extremely charming ladies from Laos. Their knowledge of English is very limited but not their culinary expertise. They make the best Oriental vegetarian food I have ever tasted, and this is from a vegetarian guy who travels the world. Their spring/egg roll is simply divine, as the served it is served with is simply out of this world. Remember all this is in a strict vegan setting. They have an afternoon lunch buffet which I just cannot say enough about. Plan to visit before it becomes famous and loses its charm.

    China View Restaurant, 11113 1/2 Katy Freeway, Telephone 713 - 464 - 2728
This is the kind of Chinese restaurant you wish you could have in your neighborhood, where the chef knows what you like the most, the owner ( who is the head chef ) pats you on the shoulder and the food is not only great but new things are being introduced every season.  You will have cravings for your favorite and you will find something new everytime you go back.  Man, the antique in China View is like a museum.  I love this restaurant because I am a foodie.  I love this restaurant because I know they take pride in what they are doing.
