Food Trivia Question from the Oriental Oasis Newsletter

TRIVIA QUESTION: Native to India, I claim the honor of probably being the world's most popular tropical fruit.  My size varies greatly: I can be as small as a duck's egg, or weigh up to 5 pounds. My shape may be round, oval, or even kidney-shaped.  As for my color, I could be red, yellowish-red, green, or even have a purplish hue. What am I?

TRIVIA ANSWER: The Mango. A luscious fruit with a sweet and sour taste, mangoes have been cultivated for at least 4,000 years. In India they were once a sacred fruit, as it was said that Buddha was presented with a grove of mangoes to provide him with a shady refuge. Nutritionally, mangoes are an excellent source of Vitamin A, and contain Vitamin C. Mangoes are most commonly enjoyed raw - a rather messy business! - but are also used in cooking. Mango Chutney and Mangoes with Sticky Rice are two popular Asian dishes.
