Fun Food Trivia

TRIVIA QUESTION: My name could be a synonym for "sweet stone." Golden in color, I am a popular addition to red-cooked dishes, and in northern China I am frequently used to flavor poultry. One of my ingredients is honey. Sold in plastic bags, I normally have to be wacked with a mallet before I'm ready for use. What am I?

TRIVIA ANSWER: Rock sugar. A combination of honey, brown sugar, and refined sugar, rock or yellow sugar is popular in Chinese cooking because of its rich flavor. It normally comes in lumps or "nuggets" that have to be broken down before it is ready to be used.
