Fun Food Trivia Question
TRIVIA QUESTION: I grew up in a small two-room house in Guangzhou, Canton, on the banks of the Pearl River. As a youngster, my "daycare center" was the restaurant where I watched my mother create superlative dishes that kept customers coming back night after night. Later, I apprenticed as a chef in my Uncle's Hong Kong restaurant. The hours were long and the work hard. I call this training period "the school of hard woks." Today, my popular television show is seen in more than seventy countries around the world. Who am I?
TRIVIA ANSWER: Martin Yan. As an Albertan, I'm proud to say that Martin Yan got his big break here, when he was asked to fill in for a popular chef who cancelled out of a scheduled appearance on a local television show at the last moment. Despite the fact that there was a blizzard outside and the food froze on the way to the television station, Martin Yan was a hit with the audience. I should also mention that besides apprenticing with his uncle, Yan attended an overseas cooking school and obtained a M.S. in Food Science from the University of California at Davis.
Feature: Martin Yan at the Calgary Stampede! - Yan brings his cooking show to the annual rodeo.
