Steaming food wrapped in leaves is a popular Asian culinary technique: not only does it help keep the food moist, but the fragrance from the leaves is transferred to the food. (The leaves are not eaten but can be re-used). In addition to seasonings, the sticky rice may be filled with a number of other ingredients, including green beans, dried mushrooms, preserved egg yolk and pork. Sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves is the traditional food served at the annual Dragon Boat Festival.
