Sesame Seeds - Glossary of Chinese Ingredients and Cooking Terms

Definition: Both black and white sesame seeds are used in Chinese cooking, as well as other Asian cuisines. White sesame seeds have a strong nutty flavor, particularly when toasted. They are used as a garnish, in main dishes such as Sesame Chicken, and in desserts such as Sesame Seed Balls. Black sesame seeds are less flavorful and used mainly to lend color.
