Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound broccoli flowerets
  • Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth

  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Pinch of salt

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli and blanch for 2 to 3 minutes, until it is tender but still crisp. Remove from the saucepan, plunge briefly into ice cold water, and drain.

In a small saucepan, bring the chicken broth, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, granulated sugar, sesame oil to a boil. Add salt to taste. Add the cornstarch and water slurry, stirring to thicken.

Pour the sauce over the blanched broccoli. Serve hot, garnished with the sesame seeds.

I love ordering Chinese greens with oyster garlic sauce from a neighborhood Thai restaurant, so was hoping this recipe would come close in flavor. It was easy, quick, and all ingredients were already in my pantry. I followed the exact proportions for the sauce in the recipe, and substituted broccolini to come closer to the Chinese greens I like, and stirred in extra firm cubed tofu, and served over brown rice. It was delicious - I might bump up the amount of oyster sauce and add a bit of garlic next time.
